Letchworth State Park

So the year was 2006 and Kelly and I were looking for a local destination to visit for a day trip.  After some online research we settled on our destination.  Letchworth state park is located about 3 hours away from home just off of the South Western corner of the New York state finger lakes region.

We left early that day, after about 2 hours of driving we stopped in the small collage town of Houghton N.Y. for breakfast.  After a quick breakfast we continued north to the southern tip of  "the grand canyon of the east" Letchwoth state park.  After paying the vehicle entry fee at the southern gate, we came upon the first waterfall as well as the railroad bridge that crosses the Genesee River.

After spending a bit of time at the first waterfall we again drove north, ending up at the Glen Iris Inn.

The Glen Iris Inn is the former retreat estate of William Pryor Letchworth.  Across the road from the inn is the William Pryor Letchworth museum.

The museum hosts a collection of local native American artifacts, including a mastodon fossil exhumed in the neighboring village of pike.  We once again continued north.  The next sight we came across was a foot bridge that crosses the river made from stone and concrete.

From there we continued north to find a few more good views of the Genesee river from banks high above.

Again, a few more shots of the scenic "Grand Canyon Of The East".

As we ended our trip I took one last picture of the waterfall that was closest to the Glen Iris Inn.

After looking back at our trip to Letchworth State park, I realize that we should have spent more time in the area.  I think that in the feature it would be best to rent a cabin or room at the inn and spend a couple of days in the area in order to see all that the Letchworth State park has to offer.
