New To Photography, New To Blogging.

So...Where to begin.

I was first introduced to photography in High school.  I signed up for a graphics art class in 9th or 10th grade.   The reason, as I recall was to have an easy class with a few friends.   In this class I learned about silkscreen printing and black and white photography, also print development.  Sadly, besides using the built in light meter on the camera to get optimum exposure, I remember very little.  The majority of the class was spent taking funny photos and goofing off, as most 16-year-olds do.

After nearly 22 years I've decided to give it another go.  My interest in photography started to grow with the first camera equipped smart phone that I purchased in the early 2000's. More recently I moved up to a Google Pixel XL. This phone in it's day had the best built in camera around for a android device.  It was neck in neck with the latest iPhone.

With the Pixel XL, I was able to capture and reproduce images that more accurately represented what I had actually witnessed.  The available unlimited Google Drive photo storage also contributed to my numerous photo taking sprees. Even though this phone has a great camera there was still something missing.

About 12 years back, on a whim I had purchased a Fuji point and shoot camera for about $250.00.  That camera was a improvement over the cellphones my wife and I had at the time.  It was only used a hand full of times though. Once for a trip to Letchworth state park "The Grand Canyon Of The East".  The camera preformed well enough, but it was still lacking in quality and ability.

This past year we went on a few local day trips.  While I did get some good pictures and video with my phone, It still felt limited to quick snapshots.  One of the trips was to Penn's Cave.

The same year I decided to start getting out more often, and walk the local bike trail to get a bit of exercise for myself and our young German Shepherd.  I ended up taking some great sunrise and sunset photos with the Pixel XL.

Then During the month of November after looking back at some of the past years photos, I decided that it was time to buy a serious camera.  I began looking for the right camera.  For the next week I spent numerous hours reviewing all of the current camera brands and models available.  After reading too many reviews to keep track of, I finally found the camera that I would purchase.

The Canon EOS Rebel T7i EF-S 18-135mm IS STM Kit.  This was a nice jump above the Fuji point and shoot as well as the Google Pixel XL.  I have just begun to relearn all the basics of photography and proper image composition.

That's as far as I'll go with this post for now.  In future posts I'll revisit some of my older photos and the stories behind them.  I will also post current photos and the results I have been able to achieve with the new camera, all while relearning and enjoying the fundamentals of photography.
